Mammogram Technologist (PRN)
Description:
Position Summary
Performs a variety of imaging procedures for Mammography, and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates in CQI activities.
Primary Responsibilities
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary responsibilities.
1. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
2. Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
3. Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
4. Works under the direction of the Radiologist at all times.
5. Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during an exam.
6. Completes all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes checking with admission stations.
7. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
8. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
9. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents any deviation.
10. Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
11. Interacts professionally with patient/family.
12. Ascertains patient understanding of process and informed consent.
13. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction.
14. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient.
15. Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.
16. Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.
Competencies
1. Basic computer knowledge.
2. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
3. Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
4. Possesses a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
5. Ability to use appropriate discretion in handling confidential information and materials.
Supervisory Responsibility
None.
Requirements:
Required Education and Experience
1. Bachelor of Science degree is preferred, but not required.
2. Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology required.
3. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required.
4. Current LSRT State license – required.
5. Current BCLS certification required.
6. Advanced certification in mammography within 1 year of hire/transfer.
