Museum Open for LHSSA Visitors with screening of the documentary ''The Ragin' 13''
The Museum will be open special hours on Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm to give the LHSAA Cross Country State Championship participants and their families time to visit while in town. The museum recognizes nearly 500 Louisiana sports icons and ambassadors as well as providing a broad overview about the origin of our region's distinctive regional culture.

At 5:00pm there will be a showing of the award-winning documentary "The Ragin'13."  The University of Louisiana at Lafayette weightlifting team won eight national championships between 1957 and 1971 – a run that included five in a row – making it one of the most successful programs in the nation. Two former team members, Walter Imahara, a Japanese-American WWII prison camp survivor, and Walter Perrin, a marginalized Cajun, found common ground through their participation on the team amid battles for acceptance and recognition in mainstream American culture. This remarkable story is chronicled in university alum Nicholas Campbell’s documentary film “The Ragin’ 13.”

A Q&A and panel discussion with filmmaker Nicholas Campbell, 2023 LSHOF inductee Walter Imahara, and author of companion book "The University of Louisiana's National Championship Weightlifting Teams" Warren Perrin, will take place after the screening.  Don't miss this opportunity to see this award winning documentary!

Admission is FREE and complimentary refreshments will be served.
