School's faculty recently named No. 1 in the nation by Niche.com

NATCHITOCHES, LA - THe Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) will host an Exploration Day on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Prospective students and their families are invited to tour the campus, faculty, and staff, and experience LSMSA's living-learning environment.

Started bt the Louisiana State Legislature in 1983, LSMSA is the state's premmier public voarding scool, providing a tuition-free pre-college experience for academically motivated high school students from throughout Louisiana.

On Exploration Day, visiting students will be able to attend classes while parents learn more about LSMSA's unique educational model from various administrators. 

"Exploration Day offers families a firsthand look at the remarkable opportunities available to students attending LSMSA," said Emily Shumate, Director on Enrollment Management and Outreach. "By sitting in on classes and exploring our, prospective students get to experience our college-level curriculum and supportive residential community themselves. We invitre families to see what sets LSMSA apart and to witness the impact it can have on their student's future."

Exploration Day is recommended for students who are currently in eighth grade or higher; younger siblings may attend; however, they must accompany their parents to all parent activities. Registration is required and can be completed at www.LSMSA.edu/visit. For those unable to attend on October 12, registration is also open for the school's following Exploration Day on November 9.

This event comes as LSMSA celebrates its standing in the newly released 2027 Niche.com rankings, wehre its faculty was named #1 Best Public High School Teachers in America. Nationally, LSMSA was also ranked #26 of 904 Best Magnet SChools, #53 of 20,664 Best Public High Schools, and maintained its overall grade of A+. 

In Louisiana, LSMSA claimed the top spot in multiple categories:

#1 of 335 - Best Public High Schools in Louisiana
#1 of 321 - Best Public High School Teachers in Louisiana
#1 of 109 - Best High Schools for STEM in Louisiana
#1 of 13 - Best Magnet High Schools in Louisiana

LSMSA faculty are required to hold a master's degree of higher in the subjects they teach. Eighty-five percent hold a Ph.D., M.F.A., or other terminal degree in their field.

The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) is a tuition-free public high school for high-achieving sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a nominal room and board fee to cover housing, meals, and campus activities.
