Fine ForGIVING Returns to the Library in 2025
Posted 10-08-2025

Through Fine ForGIVING, patrons can donate items in exchange for fine reductions, with all donations benefiting local organizations. Even if you don't have fines, you are encouraged to join in. Every donation helps make a difference!
Accepted donations and fine reductions include:
- Canned food (clean, unexpired, at least 8 oz): $2 reduction per can.
- Pet food ($2 per can or $5 per lbs. dry).
- New or gently used jackets: $15 reduction each.
- New, unopened toys: $10 reduction each.
For those with lost or damaged item charges (excluding electronics like laptops, hotspots, and Launchpads), the library also accepts:
- Halloween costumes (new or gently used): $15 reduction each.
- Costume accessories (masks, capes, etc.): $5 reduction each.
These item donations may also be used to reduce overdue fines.
Donated costumes are cleaned and added to the NPL's popular costume checkout collection each October, ensuring the program benefits families year after year.
Donations may be dropped off at the Circulation Desk of either the Main Branch (Natchitoches) or the Northeast Branch (Campti). All fine reductions apply only to overdue, late, or eligible lost/damaged item fees and are accepted at library staff discretion.
"Fine ForGIVING is one of our favorite traditions," said NPL Deputy Director, Alan Niette. "It's a way for patrons to not only clear their accounts but also give back to neighbors in need during the holiday season."
Join the NPL this fall in turning small acts of generosity into big impacts for Natchitoches Parish. For more information, call 318-357-3280, visit natlib.org, or follow the Natchitoches Parish Library on social media.
