Cane River NHA launches Winter Accessory Drive for Blue Ridge NHA residents impacted by Hurricane Helene

The Cane River National Heritage Area (CRNHA) is calling on the local community to participate in a winter accessory drive aimed at helping the residents of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area (BRNHA) in North Carolina, who are facing a difficult winter in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. This devastating storm left many in need of basic essentials as they navigate the coming colder months.

In a show of support, CRNHA is organizing a collection of new winter hats, gloves, scarves, and socks. These items will be distributed by BRNHA to ensure residents, especially the most vulnerable, have access to warmth and comfort this winter. Donations of all sizes are needed and will make a meaningful impact.

"We are all part of a heritage community, and when one area faces hardship, it affects us all," said CRNHA Executive Director Rebecca Bankenbaker. "Here in Louisiana, we know what it is like to recover from storms, so we are reaching out to the Cane River community to extend our care and generosity to our friends in Blue Ridge during this critical time."

Community members are encouraged to drop off donations at the Cane River National Heritage Area office at 4115 University Parkway or any BOM Natchitoches branch location by Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 4 pm.
